About HandRooted

Our Mission

At HandRooted, our mission is to inspire a return to simple living — a life connected to nature, craftsmanship, faith, family, and self-reliance. Every design we create reflects the belief that the most meaningful life is often the one lived closest to the land.

Our “Why”

At HandRooted, we often find ourselves reminiscing about the “good old days.” The days when life moved a little slower and people took the time to notice the world around them. As kids, we made mud soup in the backyard, ran barefoot through the creek, and chased fireflies at dusk. We grew up valuing connection, craftsmanship, and the simple joys of everyday life.

In a world that constantly pushes for more speed and convenience, we hope our products encourage people to slow down, gather together, and appreciate the beauty of simple living once again. That same desire for a more rooted life has also led us back to the land, where our family’s farm continues to shape the heart behind everything we create.

About the Owners

Katie

As a kid, I didn’t realize just how blessed I was to grow up on a small organic dairy farm in rural Wisconsin. Life on the farm moved at a different pace. You worked alongside your family, learned to care for the land, and understood the value of hard work and simple living.

In an effort to raise healthier food and steward the land well, my dad made the decision to transition the farm to organic long before it became popular. People questioned him, called him crazy, and didn’t fully understand the importance of what he was doing. Nearly 30 years later, he still proudly raises a herd of beef cattle organically on that same land.

That upbringing shaped so much of who I am and continues to inspire the heart behind HandRooted today.

After spending nearly a decade working within the public school system, I have decided to step away from my career to stay home with my daughter and eventually homeschool her. More than anything, I want her to grow up appreciating the simple joys in life, understanding the value of hard work, and learning how to use the Earth around her to nourish her body and create beautiful things with her hands. Those same values continue to shape the heart behind HandRooted and everything we create.

I did not grow up in what most would consider a traditional household. My family lived an off-grid lifestyle. I won’t sugarcoat it and pretend I always enjoyed it as a kid, but now that I’m older and thinking about how I want to raise my own daughter, I can clearly see the blessing in it.

Growing up, we planted massive gardens, and from an early age I learned firsthand where food truly comes from. I experienced the entire process — planting, weeding, harvesting, canning, and eventually preparing the food we grew ourselves. While that kind of living was not always convenient, it was simple in the best kind of way. There was something deeply rewarding about working with your hands and enjoying the fruit of your labor.

Living off-grid also taught me how to build, fix, and create instead of constantly relying on convenience or replacement. Over time, I came to appreciate the
value of craftsmanship and the meaning behind things that are made with care and built to last.

That mindset continues to shape the heart behind HandRooted today. Through the products we create, we hope to inspire people to slow down, appreciate handmade craftsmanship, and reconnect with the simple beauty of intentional living.
